About Us

Maxwells is a family run business owned and run by the Burton family for three generations. Established in 1940 we have become Northallerton's leading High Street electrical retailer. Our success is nationally recognised too as we are proud holders of the 2013/14 ERT Independent Electrical Retailer Award. With our 80th Anniversary approaching in 2020 we have earned a reputation for quality, service and a personal touch that extends into our after sales support. As members of RETRA (the Radio, Electrical, Television, Retailers Association) we match customers’ needs with the perfect products in a relaxed way with no hard sell tactics. Customers trust our longevity and experience and we are fortunate to count many generations of families as loyal customers. Our shop is even dog friendly with tasty treats and lots of fuss for our canine friend.

We employ and train 12 staff in sales, logistics, installs and service, many of whom have been with us for many years. We also have an in-store Engineer to service and repair brown goods. Our Logistics Team deliver and install large freestanding home appliances, television packages, and built in /integrated appliances. For audio visual equipment we offer a bespoke set up and trouble-shooting service, with particular expertise in Bose and Sonos products. Whatever your needs, we have the services to help you use your products most effectively.

We are active across social media and within the local community too. We are members of Northallerton Business and Improvement District (BID) and are proud to sponsor Northallerton Town Football Club. How to find us

We are located right on the main High Street in Northallerton towards the southern end. We have a wide shop front with large windows and two patriotic flags above our signage. By car, follow signs for the A684 towards the Town Centre. If travelling from the South look out for the Maxwell’s sponsored roundabout at the start of High Street!

There is short stay parking outside our shop and three long stay car parks behind the High Street, within 10 minutes’ walk. We offer a customer drop off and collection point at the rear of our shop for convenience which can be accessed from the Ring Road behind Tesco.

Northallerton train station is just a 10-minute walk from the High Street, or 5 minutes in a taxi. Simply turn left out of the station and ahead down South Parade at the roundabout.

Delivery info

We deliver FREE to a large local area including Darlington, Stockton, Yarm, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Guisborough, Harrogate, Ripon, Thirsk, Bedale, Richmond, Leyburn, Helmsley, York, Whitby and surrounding rural areas in the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors. Deliveries further afield will be considered but subject to additional charge.

We use our own Delivery Team and branded fleet of vans to deliver, unpack and install your chosen product. Whilst we endeavour to offer many of our services for free, there may be additional charges for premium and bespoke installation and waste disposal. Check with our sales team for your requirements. Please be aware that we do not install Gas products but will recommend/refer our customers to local Gas Safe Registered specialists.

We offer morning or afternoon delivery slots including Saturday but don't deliver on Thursdays or Sundays (even our Delivery team deserve time off!). We can't confirm a specific time for delivery within the scheduled slot, but on the day of delivery our delivery team always telephone in advance of the van's arrival to let you know they are on the way!

To ensure a smooth delivery experience, all we ask is that you clarify any specific circumstances that might impact on our ability to adequately deliver and install your items (such as flights of steps, difficult access, absence of plumbing) prior to delivery so we can accommodate them or discuss alternative arrangements where necessary. Most importantly we need you to be at home to receive/sign for the delivery as we do not leave items unattended at properties.
