Washer Dryers
Discover the convenience of washer dryers
Appliances like washing machines and tumble dryers take up lots of floor space, and not all of us are lucky enough to have a utility room to keep laundry separate. A washer dryer combines the convenience of a washing machine and tumble dryer into one unit.
Washer dryers are great for those with busy lifestyles, as you can set the machine to wash and dry a load at certain times of day. You can wake up in the morning or come home from work to find fresh, warm, and dry clothing ready to go back in the wardrobe.
Types of washer dryer
The type of washer dryer you need depends on where it will go. Freestanding appliances can be placed anywhere in your home with access to a water supply. Integrated models, however, can be concealed behind a cupboard door for a seamless finish.
How to choose the right washer dryer
- Space & fit – Take accurate measurements, including height, width, and depth, and check for door clearance.
- Size & capacity – Washer dryers have two capacities, one for washing and one for drying. Ensure you check each capacity to meet all your laundry requirements.
- Energy efficiency – Look for the highest energy efficiency rating to reduce electricity use and lower your bills over time.
- Noise level – Check the decibel (dB) ratings for the wash and spin cycles. This is important if you plan to place your appliance near living spaces or run it at night.
- Programmes & features - Ensure it includes the cycles you will actually use, such as quick wash, eco mode, and delicate. Most models offer a full wash-to-dry setting, too.
- Running costs and performance - Energy rating, water consumption, load size, water pressure, and programme choice all affect efficiency and cleaning results, so it’s important to select the right settings.
Key features to look for
Combined appliances offer the same impressive features as separate models, so you can enjoy eco cycles, variable temperatures, handy LED displays, quick washes, effective spinning, and high-performance washes with whichever option you choose.
Here, we explain the most common features of the washer dryers we stock.
- Energy Efficiency – Rated from A to G, the energy rating helps you determine how energy-efficient the machine is and compare its running costs.
- Washing Capacity (kg) – The average-sized family needs around 6kg, whilst larger families and those who often wash bulky, heavy items should look for an 8kg capacity.
- Drying Capacity (kg) – As with washing capacity, consider what you’ll dry most and choose the drying capacity that best suits your needs.
- Spin Speed – The higher the spin speed, the more water is extracted from your clothes, so they dry faster after washing.
- Quick Wash – A shorter cycle designed for lightly soiled clothes.
- Full Wash-to-Dry – An all-in-one programme that washes and dries your clothes in one continuous cycle.
- Delay Start – Lets you schedule a cycle at a later time. It is ideal for using your machine in off-peak energy times.
- Noise Level (dB) – Indicates how loud an appliance is during wash and spin cycles. 30 dB is a soft whisper, whilst 60 dB is the equivalent of a normal conversation.
Energy efficiency and running costs
Washer dryers are rated using the UK A–G energy label, which allows for easy comparison of efficiency, with A-rated models using significantly less energy than lower-rated alternatives.
Energy consumption is measured using the Eco 40–60 programme for washing, which is designed to wash normally soiled cotton laundry at lower temperatures and reduce electricity use. However, drying typically accounts for the larger share of a washer dryer's overall energy use, so the rating also reflects performance across combined wash-and-dry cycles.
Actual running costs vary based on temperature selection, load size, cycle choice, spin speed and how often the drying function is used, as hotter washes, full drying cycles and smaller, repeated loads typically use more energy overall.
For the best balance of performance and savings, run full loads where possible, use Eco 40–60 (where available) for everyday laundry, and reserve the integrated dryer for when air-drying isn't practical, since drying is usually the more energy-intensive half of the cycle.

FAQs
Q. What capacity washer dryer do I need for a family of four?
For a family of four, you're generally looking at a washing machine capacity of 8-9kg, though the drying capacity is typically lower, around 5-6kg, since washer dryers can't dry as much as they wash in a single cycle. A rough rule of thumb is 1-2kg of washing capacity per person, so 8kg comfortably covers a family of four for regular loads.
Q. How much does a washer dryer cost to run?
Running costs for a washer dryer depend mainly on three factors: the appliance's energy rating, how it's used (wash-only vs combined wash-and-dry cycles), and the current price of electricity. Based on the new energy price of 26.11p per kWh (from July 2026), the average washer-dryer will cost you £79 for washing and £133 for drying, for a total of £212. In comparison, a separate heat pump dryer and washing machine will cost on average £118 a year in running costs.

Q. How long should a washer dryer last?
You can expect a washer-dryer to typically last between 10 and 13 years. Because machines that handle both washing and drying have more complex parts than standalone machines, they may wear out more quickly.
Q. What should I check before delivery or installation?
The key things to check before delivery or installation are the dimensions (height, width, depth) of the space, as well as the doorways and hallways, to ensure the machine will fit, including narrow doors and corners. You’ll also need to ensure your floor is level, that your cold-fill inlet and drainage system are nearby, and that there is an easily accessible 13-amp socket.
Q. Do you offer installation and disposal?
Yes, we offer setup, installation or removal services at a small additional cost. Check the product page or our terms of sale for details.
