I'll Toaster That! A Loved Appliance
The underrated superstar of the kitchen
There’s more to a toaster than meets the eye, they can be used for so much more than just browning your bread! Here are some of our favourite ways to make the most of your kitchen appliance.
- Potato waffles: These childhood favourites can even be cooked from frozen. Pop them in the toaster for two toasting cycles and you’ll have deliciously golden waffles ready in no time!
- Leftover pizza: The quickest way to reheat leftover pizza, keeping it crispy and re-melting that cheese to perfection. We’d recommend toaster bags to avoid any toppings slipping off or laying the toaster on its side for this job.
- Tortilla chips: This one’s a winner if you’re looking for some match day snacks or just a handy way to use up leftover wraps. Pop a small sized wrap in your toaster, keep a close eye on it and before you know it you’ll be slam-dunking into the guacamole.
- Veggie burgers: Place the burger in your toaster and cook for five minutes, or if cooking from frozen, a little bit longer. Why not pop a burger bun in another toaster slot for record breaking meal efficiency? You might like to use a toaster bag for this one.
- Sweet potato: AKA the new toast. Slice your sweet potato lengthwise to around ⅓ of an inch thick keeping the washed skin on, and toast until your slices are fork tender. All that’s left to do is decide which toppings to try first!
- Garlic bread: Whilst it’s still bread, we bet you haven’t thought of this speedy hack to avoid turning on the oven. Cover some bread with olive oil, minced garlic, and a sprinkle of parsley. To avoid drips, pop it in a toaster bag! Buono!
There isn’t a whole lot of cooking skills required here to have yummy, crunchy, warm meals in just a matter of minutes. Just remember… toasters can get hot so be careful! For health and safety reasons, don’t stick any cutlery or metal utensils in the toaster (that’s what toaster tongs are for!), and do ensure you turn it off and unplug it before trying to get any fallen food out! Most importantly, don’t cry over burnt toast!
