HISTORY

Marsh’s has been in Sturminster Newton for as long as anyone can remember. The business was started by Harry and Edward (Ted) Marsh in 1930 in the then Sturminster Newton Bus depot next to what is now One Stop (in Station Road) selling cars, bicycles, electric lighting, electric bells, gramophones, wireless receivers as well as charging batteries. The Company Motto back then was “Marsh’s for Quick Service” and to this day the Company still maintains this basic principle coupled with a focus on customer service, hence the current Motto

“Service beyond The Sale”

In 1939 Ted Marsh moved the retail side of the business into the Market Place where it is still thriving to this day. Ted’s son Richard (Dick) Marsh worked in the business all his life from manning public address equipment at local events and village hall dances, to working and serving in the shop. In 1993 Dick’s daughter Sarah Palmer joined the Company, followed by her husband Ross Palmer in 2005 and continues the strong focus and tradition of providing excellent customer service coupled with competitive pricing. Marsh’s is one of the oldest members of Euronics. The company is still family owned and run and in April 2001 with the business prospering, a second shop was opened in Cheap Street, Sherborne.

PRESENT DAY

Sarah and Ross Palmer the current owner’s state “we are friendly, knowledgeable and personable to all our customers, who are important in an ever changing environment. The electrical market in particular, is a difficult specialisation as the products and installations are always changing so we are constantly training our staff to be up to date with the latest product and service incarnations, this means we are supporting our customers with the latest product information available as well as keeping them abreast as to the market trends……… Our staff, stay with us for many years so you are guaranteed a friendly face and any problems which may arise are dealt with as efficiently and effectively as possible, hence our Motto “Service beyond the Sale”.

DELIVERY AND INSTALLATION

We deliver and install products throughout Dorset and Somerset. We believe that if you buy locally, you should be looked after properly, and therefore we won't just drop your product on the doorstep and turn around. In the majority of cases, all our products are Delivered and Installed at no additional cost, and if required, we will provide a demonstration on how to use your new product.

We can also call to your home, discuss your requirements and measure your space if you are unsure of size.

Our staff, stay with us for many years (we have a combined 250 years’ worth of knowledge!) so you are guaranteed a friendly face and any problems which may arise are dealt with efficiently and effectively.

The fact that Marsh’s is one of only a handful of companies that have flourished for over 80 years of change, is proof of our service

REPAIRS

We employ a number of engineers within our Dedicated Service Department who work on products both in and out of warranty. If you purchase a product from us and it unfortunately becomes faulty under warranty we will ensure it is rectified and in most instances, we will come and collect it and return it to our service department. If on inspection, the product cannot be repaired, it will be replaced. With Televisions subject to availability, we can even leave you with a loan set while yours is in for repair - all you have to do is contact us and we will take your details and take care of the rest.

Products not under warranty can also be repaired. Again, we can arrange collection of the product to have it bought into the workshop. If an item cannot be bought in for repair, such as a washing machine or dishwasher, we will arrange for one of our home calling engineers to visit your home.

RENTAL

Marsh’s have a long heritage of providing quality TV, Video and DVD equipment on rental, which is backed up by our legendary service. We can offer brand new equipment or rental models (subject to minimum contract periods of 18 months) Rental does offer many advantages in these times of fast changing technology which for you, means you need not buy a product only to find that after 18 months you want or need something different- you can simply change your rental plan to suit. LOAN EQUIPMENT

Subject to availability we can even leave you with a loan Television, video/DVD recorder, fridge, freezers as well as washing machines, while yours is in for repair. - all you have to do is contact us and we will take your details and take care of the rest.

The store can be found half way down the main high street ( Cheap Street) on the left hand side just before Barclays Bank.

There are several car parks the closest being in Hound Street  which is just behind the shop.

We deliver to...

We will deliver free of charge in a 25 mile radius of each of the shops.  If you live a little further away we may deliver to you but a small charge will be payable.
