A Freeview Recorder is a device that allows a television set to receive and view Freeview channels (some in high definition / HD). Freeview Recorders also come with a memory source - these take different forms such as an external or attached hard drives, but all are for the explicit purpose of allowing the device to record and store a large amount of content from any of the Freeview channels. This recorded content can then be watched later at the owner’s convenience.
Other devices such as the Freesat Recorder, the Freeview HD Recorder, the Freeview Playback, and the Freeview Plus are similar (or identical) to the regular Freeview Recorder, although some may have certain additional features that other devices do not have. Each type of recorder has its own specialty, making it a matter of consumer choice when it comes to selecting which device is for you. Fortunately, there are plenty of options to choose from.
A Freeview Recorder comes with two essential pieces, the receiver and the recording device. The receiver, which may also be called the set-top-box, is a device that is connected to your TV aerial allowing it to receive whichever channels are available in your area and feed them to your tv. A good Freeview Receiver will have high definition compatibility and will receive a large number of Freeview channels.
The other essential piece in a Freeview Recorder is of course the recording device. While Freeview channels have been streaming and available for quite a while now, the ability to record them has only recently been introduced. Most recording devices that come with Freeview Receivers feature an internal storage system that resembles the hard drive in a computer. Many recorders come with built-in tuners that eliminate the need for various receivers in order to record multiple channels at the same time.
The best thing about Freeview Recorders is the amount of channels they give you access to with no subscription, contract, or fee required. Still, here are a few important things to look out for when buying a Freeview Recorder to help you get the very most possible for your money:
If high quality sound is important to you, invest in a recorder with surround sound capabilities. Most Freeview Recorders are compatible with whatever cutting-edge sound system might be your favourite, but it’s best to double check on this feature and if it will be a make or break selling point for you.
While your Freeview Recorder may still work with an aerial device mounted indoors, it’s best to use an outdoor aerial, preferably mounted atop your roof. Outdoor aerials get much better connections and are able to receive a wider range of channels than the indoor variety.
If you have a wide variety of tastes in television shows or if you are simply programme hoarder, get a Freeview Recorder with plenty of hard drive space. The more space yours comes with, the more you’ll be able to record without having to risk deleting your favourite shows. Any Freeview Recorders with internal hard drives, however, can only play back their content on the same device with which the content was recorded.
If you want to be able to watch your favourite shows at a friend’s house, invest in a Freeview DVD Recorder that is able to put the programs straight onto recordable DVDs. Although this format comes with its drawbacks, namely the necessity of always having to have recordable DVDs available, it does afford you a large degree of mobility.
There are of course also devices that feature a combination of hard drive and DVD recording. Although these may be slightly more expensive, they allow you to record your shows either on the internal hard drive or on a DVD, depending on what you have available and where you want to later watch the show.Have a look through all the Freesat and Freeview Recorders that are offered to you by Euronics.
